Tom Cruise has officially spoken out and is devastated by Tony Scott‘s death.

The 50-year-old actor looked somber as stepped out for dinner at Madeo restaurant hours after learning about the ‘Top Gun‘ director’s sudden death in Los Angeles on Sunday (August 19).

Scott committed suicide yesterday by plunging to his death off of a  L.A. bridge.

Cruise who starred in ‘Top Gun’ back in 1986 said, “Tony was my dear friend and I will really miss him … My deepest sorrow and thoughts are with his family at this time.”

Cruise claimed Scott “was a creative visionary whose mark on film is immeasurable.”

ABC News is reporting that Scott learned that he was suffering from an inoperable brain cancer before his death.

In a sad turn of events, famed director Tony Scott has died at the age of 68.

The ‘Top Gun‘ director jumped to his death off an L.A. bridge on Sunday (August 19) according to the L.A. County Coroner.

TMZ is confirming that a suicide note was found in Scott’s Toyota Prius and his body was recovered at approximately 4:30pm, four hours after he jumped.

Scott also directed major films like ‘Beverly Hills Cop II,’ ‘Enemy of the State,’ and ‘The Taking of Pelham 123.’
