Jessica Simpson is heading back to the small screen!
The 32-year-old singer/actress who is expecting her second child is set to star in a new NBC sitcom based loosely on her life.
Nick Bakay who will be writing the pilot script, Ben Silverman and Joe Simpson are signing on as executive producers.
“I am so excited to work with with Ben and NBC again, this time on a scripted comedy,” Simpson says in a statement. “I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life—so between the real life elements and a great team of writers, I think we’ll have people laughing!”

Carrie Underwood is taking on the role of her life!
The 29-year-old country singer has been cast as Maria von Trapp the iconic role made famous by Julie Andrew‘s in NBC‘s version of ‘The Sound of Music.’
“Speaking for everyone at NBC, we couldn’t be happier to have the gifted Carrie Underwood take up the mantle of the great Maria von Trapp,” Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC, said in a statement.
The televised version will be a three-hour telecast which is set to air around the holidays next year. The movie will be produced by ‘Smash‘ producers,Craig Zadan and Neil Moran.
We’re thrilled to be presenting the Broadway version of The Sound of Music live,” said Zadan and Meron, “and having Carrie Underwood as the star brings it to a new generation who will fall in love with it for the first time as many millions of people already have. It’s a particular joy to us as producers to see this amazing artist stretch into new territory with this classic musical.”
