Star witness Jennifer Hudson was the first to take the stand on day one of her family’s murder trial on Monday (April 23).
The Oscar winner testified in the murder trial against William Balfour, her sister Julia’s estranged husband who murdered their mother, brother and Julia’s 7-year-old son.
While taking the stand, Hudson told the court room, “None of us myself, my mother, or my brother, we did not like how he treated her and I didn’t like how he treated my nephew.”
The morning that the bodies were found, Hudson said that she knew something was wrong when her mother didn’t text her, “My sister called my fiancé’s phone. I remember it like yesterday, obviously. And he couldn’t understand what she was saying because she was so hysterical, and I grabbed the phone from him, and that’s when she told me.”
Balfour who pleaded not guilty is facing a life sentence if convicted of the 2008 murders.
